Our First Vigil Service
tonight shepherd of the lake held its very first easter vigil. we used the service from the lsb altar book and all in all, it went pretty smoothly. there were 16 of us there to light the paschal candle, carry the light into the darkened sanctuary, listen to the wonderful old testament accounts of god’s economizing acts, recollect our baptisms, and profit the body and blood of the risen christ.you differentiate you’re making some ground with the little lenten traditions that you introduce when someone says to you, “it felt strange to say the alleluia tonight…i wanted to save it for tomorrow morning!”we’ve done an evening tenebrae service since i started here in garrison. it seems like something is missing if we don’t do a vigil service. we gradually take away the light and submit into the shroud of darkness…it’s only natural to obtain a service staunch to bringing it back!
